About the Position Under general supervision, transcribes a variety of medical reports, notes and other data from recorded dictation. After a period of in-house training, this will be a homebased position. The qualified candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following duties: - Transcribes recorded material, including operative reports, discharge summaries, patient history and examinations.
- Prioritizes current dictations by chronology or urgency. Logs dictation to avoid lost or missing reports.
- Verifies accuracy of patient information such as name, hospital number, location in hospital and patient file location.
- Makes entries on prescribed control forms as needed, indicating report that was transcribed, dates dictation was received and transcribed, and name of dictator.
- Maintains a production report detailing numbers and variety of reports completed per day, as well as line count for each day.
- Dispatches finished reports to designated persons for approval and signature.
- Duplicates documents and forms as directed and mails to outside individuals and agencies.

The Medical Transcriptionist will be responsible to the hospital, patient and Medical Staff to provide accurate and timely transcription of highly technical dictation by physicians and other health care professionals regarding patient assessment, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc., in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of health care services. The Medical Transcriptionist must possess a vast knowledge of medical terminology , anatomy and physiology, pharmaceutical, as well as excellent English grammar, spelling, editing and medical report composition and formatting and must have the ability to understand diverse accents, dialects and dictation styles needed to correctly search out new terms and to recognize and interpret various accents and voices. The transcriptionist, at some point in time, may have to assist in the orientation and training of new employees and/or students, as well as attend seminars/educational programs, etc. required to upgrade their skills. The transcriptionist must be able to maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers, patients and Medical Staff. The person must understand and comply with the need for strict confidentiality. |

Must have experience specifically with FINANCIAL transcription and be excellent at keeping track of (and adhering to) differences in templates and formatting requirements from one financial client to the next.
