The Medical Transcriber is responsible and accountable for all medical reports and tests needing transcribed. Beginning typing speed must be a minimum of 80 words per minute and reports must be 95% error free based on no more than 2 mistakes per full typed page. All transcribers are responsible for being able to type any report; these include H&Ps Discharge Sums Consults X-Ray Echos EEGs/EKGs Stress Tests Operative procedure reports Path reports Holters Stats etc. from any physician. DESCRIPTION: The medical Transcriptionist is responsible for transcribing all dictated reports as well as monitoring and prioritizing transcription workload. Transcription includes medical reports, radiology reports, letters, operative reports, discharge summaries, consultations, history and physicals, emergency room reports, progress notes, etc. Duties may include other medical record functions as needed when transcription is current. REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or equivalent education. Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) credential preferred. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical/radiology terminology. Requires keyboarding skills with a minimum speed of at least 65 words per minute with a 96% accuracy rate. Knowledge of various computer applications including, but not limited to: word processing, transcription media, email and internet software. Must be a highly motivated person who can accomplish a variety of tasks, while maintaining confidentiality with minimal supervision. |

On average, the audio recordings are approximately 1-hour in length but can be less or more, but rarely exceeding 2 hours. Job Requirements 1-2 years transcription experience preferred; own your own equipment; court reporting training highly desirable; attention to detail is a must; 48-hour turn-around is the norm for all submitted transcripts; thorough understanding of the English language and above average grammar skills; and the ability to proof work prior to submission.
