DICTA-TYPIST to work from home on contract transcribing digital audio files of interviews and focus groups via the internet approx. 20 hrs/ wk. You choose days and times but you must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours over a 48-hour period at least twice a week, either during the week, or a combination of weekdays and weekends. Must type 55-60 wpm & be expert in MS Word, the internet & email. Must have Word 2003 or later and high-speed internet. You must have an IBM compatible computer, not a Mac, because the software required to do the transcription will not run on a Mac. Experience using Express Scribe and transcribing interviews or group discussions helpful but not essential. English must be your native language and you must have excellent English, spelling and grammar. BA in sociology or psychology helpful but not essential. Must live in lower mainland of BC. We do not do medical dictation. We only transcribe academic and business interviews and focus groups. Our staff tell us they find the work very interesting and really enjoy the variety. While we will be able to give you more than 20 hours per week during our busy periods, if you want to work that much, it's important to note that the work flow is seasonal. It's very slow in January and early February. It's also very slow in September and early October. However, it's usually very busy from March through to the end of August and from mid-October through to the end of December. However, in both busy periods and slow periods, there may be anomalies in the work flow, so we may get more or less work than expected during any given week. Since the work flow is not always reliable, you should not rely on this income to meet your basic needs. This should be a second source of income, in addition to another regular source of income which is sufficient to meet your basic needs.
