Transcribes recorded material, including operative reports, discharge summaries, patient history and examinations. (The performance of this function is the reason that the job exists. This function occupies a great deal of the employee's time.) - Prioritizes current dictations by chronology or urgency. Logs dictation to avoid lost or missing reports.
- Verifies accuracy of patient information such as name, hospital number, location in hospital and patient file location.
- Makes entries on prescribed control forms as needed, indicating report that was transcribed, dates dictation was received and transcribed, and name of dictator.
- Maintains a production report detailing numbers and variety of reports completed per day, as well as line count for each day.
- Dispatches finished reports to designated persons for approval and signature.
- Duplicates documents and forms as directed and mails to outside individuals and agencies.
